PARLIAMENT Speaker Edward Ssekandi has promised to support the ministry of education in getting enough funds to prepare teams for international competitions, writes Norman Katende.

In the past, Uganda teams to international games like Olympics, Commonwealth and All Africa Games have suffered lack of funds, most especially in training.

In an interview with The New Vision at the Parliamentary building on Saturday, Ssekandi said that parliament was a t the forefront of creating the department of sports in the ministry and they will not abandon it at this time of need.

“We know funding has been a problem in the past but we are now working together to see that this is a myth.

What we want to do is to help put in place regulations that will ensure that more investments come into sports for the teams to train well so that we are able to get good results,” said Ssekandi, who has been involved in a number of sporting activities.

He has flagged off national teams to international events, officiated at national games and also crowned the sports personalities for the year twice.

“We have started by supporting a tax waiver on sports donation. We want to see sports adequately funded and we will support all regulations coming to parliament towards this direction,” he said.
