THE local rugby referees body will not compromise standards as far as officiating the rugby game is concerned.

The society that has for so long been accused of not taking action against erring referees swung into action by demoting referee Charlie Mungoma.

Mungoma was penalised for his poor show during the Uganda Cup semi-final game between G4S Pirates and MTN Heathens last month.

He awarded 38 penalties to Pirates against 14 for Heathens, a performance that raised many questions.

According to a source, Mungoma, an IRB level II referee has been barred from officiating any major game that involves the top three clubs. The clubs are Pirates, Heathens and uganda telecom Kobs.

“He has not been suspended, but this is a referees society issue and I can’t give you any details,” the Uganda Rugby Referee Society boss Jim Middleton said.

Meanwhile, Ramsey Olinga and Gilbert Kwaya have returned from Cape Town, South Africa, where they had gone for Level III examinations.
