THE first ever Top Model Trend (TMT) hair and fashion search, launched recently, has gained momentum. Last month’s auditions saw 36 girls shortlisted for the search climaxing in November at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

The qualifying criteria included technical questions in areas of specialty for the contestants. Tasks were given to test contestants’ skills. They drew sketches on selected dressing themes and selected hair styles while the models’ were screened in size and height.

Awards include the top model award, best rookie, life time achievement, runway hair stylists and special recognition among others. Of the 36 girls, 24 are modeling but only 16 will head for the Serena finals. There are seven hairstylists and five fashion designers who all go to finals. Last week at Club T1, models at a mini rehearsal, showcased what the hairstylist and fashion designers presented while others were tested on using the catwalk. Funky hair styles were exhibited, providing an insight into the finale. Contestants are currently on a physical training and fitness programme.

Besides the awards, management would like to raise the bar in the fashion, beauty and hairstyling industry as has been the case in other countries TMT debuted. Going by last week’s rehearsals, this will come to pass.
