PRESIDENTIAL aspirants of soccer governing body FUFA have only two weeks to campaign for the federation’s top post.

Returning officer Patrick Okanya on Tuesday set November 14 as the date for the elective assembly.

The tight electoral dates followed Mbale’s withdrawal of its High Court case against FUFA that had halted the elections for three weeks.

The High Court in Mbale yesterday lifted the 90-day injunction on the electoral process after an out of court settlement.

Okanya resumed work with delegates’ nominations yesterday and elections today.

Presidential nominations will be next week.

FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa was nominated in Wakiso as representative of first division side KB Lions.

Vice president (youth) Justus Mugisha (Standard High) and Anthony Kimuli (Entebbe Rangers) were Wakiso’s other nominees.

Presidential aspirant Godfrey Kwizera was also nominated in Kabale together with Khalid Latif and Sam Mutabaazi.

Okanya explained that a message on the new dates was sent out through the media, returning officers and polling assistants.

Nominations had started when Mbale District Football Association, demanding for the involvement of district delegates in the elections, took FUFA to court early this month.

“Because the electoral process stalled by three weeks does not mean that we have to extend the assembly by three weeks,” argued Okanya.

But Kwizera complained of inadequate communication to the grassroots.

“Many people are not aware. I had to drive from Kampala at 4am. Let me hope we don’t get more court cases.”

Districts, ex-internationals and coaches will vote for their delegates to the assembly today while schools, women, referees and Super Division Clubs Association go to polls tomorrow.

The court session presided over by assistant High Court registrar Lillian Mwandha disposed of the case after FUFA issued new election guidelines, according to the two-page, seven point consent document.

It was agreed that district executives are now eligible to participate in the district assembly, vote and be voted in the elections.
