AS Uganda’s U-20 national women soccer team leaves for Rwanda today, coach Majidah Nantanda said there was a plot to eliminate her girls from the 2011 World Cup qualifiers, writes Swalley Kenyi.
Nantanda’s comment yesterday follows news that the return leg against their Rwandan counterparts will be officiated by referees from the neighbouring Burundi.
“We are going to play a match against players and referees. Definitely they (the hosts and referees) will speak the same language and they can plot anything. I have told the girls to be very careful but we are not safe,†Nantanda complained.
She has hitherto been in high spirits saying that her team would win in Rwanda and advance to the first round where Zambia are the likely next opponents.
Uganda needs at least a draw at Amahoro stadium to advance after their 2-1 win over Rwanda in the first leg in Kampala last month.
Rwanda football body is not taking chances and has asked national team coach Branko Tucak to take centre stage during the game on Saturday.
Tucak was on their technical bench in Kampala and was often seen giving instructions to the team during the game. He advised team coach Grace Nyinawumuntu to introduce eventual goal scorer Djamilla Abimana immediately after half time.
