Sub-county and district chairpersons in Buganda have expressed support for the proposed Land Bill, which is being handled by Parliament.

Sub-county and district chairpersons in Buganda have expressed support for the proposed Land Bill, which is being handled by Parliament.
The chairpersons, under the Uganda Local Government Association, central region branch, want Parliament to pass the Bill, saying it is the only solution to the increasing conflicts between landlords and tenants.
They, however, said the Bill should not be passed before contentions between those who support it and those who do not are considered.
They also said the central Government should consult the Buganda Kingdom about the Bill before it is passed.
The kingdom is opposed to the Bill, saying it is intended to aid land grabbing in the region.
The chairpersons were attending their annual general meeting at Bishop West Primary School in Mukono district on Saturday.
The meeting was presided over by the chairperson, Siraje Kizito Nkugwa.
Other resolutions made during the meeting included supporting peace talks between Mengo and the central Government.
The chairpersons said the talks would pave way for the reopening of Central Broadcasting Station (CBS), Buganda’s FM radio station.
The station was closed for allegedly inciting violence during the recent riots that broke out in the region.
The riots followed the Government’s decision to block Buganda premier John Baptist Walusimbi from going to Kayunga to prepare for the Kabaka’s visit.
Participants noted that the impasse between the central Government and the kingdom had affected service delivery in their districts.
