Mallinga lucky
HEALTH minister Dr. Stephen Mallinga is a lucky man. You know in this era of HIV/AIDS, one is lucky to test negative. This was proved when Mallinga led the people of Butembo in Pallisa district for HIV/AIDS testing recently. The majority of those who tested, including the minister, were HIV-negative. Our scouts told us that Mallinga, who was beaming from ear to ear, displayed his results to the excited crowd saying: “You see, I am free of AIDS.” Congratulations Dr. Mallinga!

Slum dwellers!

If you thought slum dwellers were stupid, then ask the manager of Kampala Water, Andrew Sekayizzi, who has dealt with them for a long time. Kayizzi recently said slum dwellers were cunning. They artfully swindle the National Water and Sewerage Corporation pipe water, causing huge losses to the company. And you know what, water bosses are also not sleeping. They have developed a pro-poor water programme for the slum dwellers. They are doing this, not because of their corporate social responsibility, but to reduce on illegal water tapping.

High MP turn up

MPS have been attending in big numbers during the Land Amendment Bill debate and the Speaker, Edward Ssekandi, had it rough trying to cool tempers. On Thursday, a crowd that followed the debate on television wondered: “Why don’t MPs always turn up in big numbers like they have done for this Bill? If they had been doing this before, no one would complain even if they increased their allowances.” Ssekandi, please take note.

UPC bachelors

A group of boda boda cyclists on Kampala streets were recently arguing over politicians who are senior bachelors. One of them, who looked well-versed with politician lives, said: “The Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) has senior bachelors aspiring for the presidency.’ He was booed down. Hey, whoever you are, better marry before the 2011 polls. Otherwise, you may lose out on the presidency.
