THE Prime Minister, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, has urged religious leaders to be impartial when advising the Government on controversial issues.

Speaking at the Silver Jubilee celebrations for Mukono Diocese on Sunday, Nsibambi said religious leaders divide the flock when they become partisan and yet the role of the Church is to unite people.

He commended the clergy for the advisory role they play in the leadership of the country and asked them to continue doing it.

“The Government welcomes advice the clergy gives, but I urge you to read the laws of the country and understand them before giving advice,” Nsibambi said.

He noted that sometimes, the clergy give wrong advice because they are not informed about the existing laws on the issue they are advising about.

He commended the Mukono Bishop, Eria Paul Luzinda, for criticising corrupt leaders but asked him not to think all officials are corrupt.

Nsibambi also laid the foundation stone for the proposed sh1.5b 3,000- seater cathedral and donated sh3m towards its construction.

Bishop Luzinda said since it’s establishment in 1984, Mukono diocese had done a lot of things during the 25 years, these include the extension of ministry to the island areas of the district.
