THE Busoga Church of Uganda Diocese is to be split into three in a move aimed at taking services nearer to the Christians.

The bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Michael Kyomya, will remain in charge of Jinja Diocese comprising Jinja and Kamuli districts, the diocesan secretary, the Rt. Rev. Sam Egesa, said.

“Iganga, Namutumba and Kaliro will be under the Central Busoga Diocese, with the headquarters at All Saints Church in Iganga. This will be easily accessible than the hitherto far off diocesan seat in Bugembe,” he said on Sunday.

Egesa said Kyomya made the disclosure during a meeting in Bugembe on December 2.

“He gave the archdeacons this food for thought until the synod sits early next year to deliberate on this matter,” Egesa said.

Each parish sends two representatives to the synod chaired by the bishop at Bugembe.

Egesa said Kyando and Bugiri archdeaconries will form South Busoga Diocese, with its headquarters in Bugiri town.

Iganga archdeaconry tried in vain to break off from Busoga Diocese in the mid-1990s during the tenure of retired Bishop Cyprian Bamwoze.
