A total of 22 health centres in Bushenyi district have not received drugs from the National Medical Stores (NMS) since November.

The district health officer, Dr. Celestine Barigye, said patients were not getting treatment because of lack of medicine.

He said the district sent a list of both government and private health centres that are supposed to get drugs from the NMS but that the 22 government health centres were not supplied with drugs.

Barigye explained that even the anti-malaria and anti-biotic drugs, which are mostly used, were not available.

He said the National Medical Stores refused to supply drugs to the health centres, arguing that they did not exist on their list.

Recently the NMS discovered over 100 ghost health centres, which received government drugs and has since removed them from the supply chain.

Three of the ghost health units were discovered in Igara East, the constituency of health state minister Richard Nduhura.
