DAN Nkata may be gone but he is not forgotten. Nkata, one of the first black golfers in Uganda, will be remembered for his efforts in promoting the game at Entebbe club today. The club is hosting the 4th Nkata Memorial tournament that has attracted over 80 players.

Nkata’s wife Victoria, Uganda’s first lady golfer, will tee off the event sponsored by Orange. Entebbe club’s public relations officer Innocent Kihika said the club is glad to host the event.

“This is one our most memorable days, it’s our last tournament of the year but most importantly we are remembering a great man,” Kihika explained yesterday.

The tournament will be spiced up with a display of photographs, trophies won and clubs used by the Nkatas and articles written about them.

After retiring as a player, Nkata was actively involved in promoting the game by designing golf courses and teaching the game across the country. He was the architect of a plan to upgrade Entebbe course from 9 to 18 holes.
