NRM supporters in Samia Bugwe North have embraced communication technology minister Aggrey Awori as one of their own.
Awori was up to recently an outspoken member of Parliament for the Uganda People’s Congress.

He crossed to NRM in 2007 after he lost the election to an NRM candidate, Stephen Mugeni.
Over 100 NRM parish cadres assured Awori that they had forgiven him.

The party supporters declared their support at a meeting hosted by Awori at his new home in Busia town on Sunday.

After joining NRM, Awori abandoned his Namaubi home in Dabani sub-country, saying the old one belonged to UPC.

“Awori is like the biblical Saul who after molesting people saw the light and accepted God,” said Geoffrey Beneza, the LC1 chairman of Nangwe- Mugungu in Busia town.

They, however, cautioned him against lies now that he has joined the NRM Government.

“Besides being opposed to NRM the other reason that had made most of us hate you was that you promised to construct bridges where there were no rivers,” said John Wafula, a parish chairperson in Busitema sub-county.

While addressing his guests, Awori noted that his loss to Mugeni in the 2006 parliamentary election was a blessing in disguise.

“Losing the election made me realise that I was in the wrong party and now I have benefited from the loss,” Awori said.

He admitted that he had become the most hated man in the constituency.

He appealed to lower carders to work with him in strengthening the party and standing firmly behind the President.

Awori said Museveni had put him in a position where he could support himself and the constituency. He promised never to lie again.

Every speaker at the meeting assured Awori that he had their support and congratulated him on being elected into the Cabinet.
