RESIDENTS of Kampala and its suburbs have been warned against inconveniencing people with loud noise. Kampala City Council (KCC) issued the warning recently after receiving several complaints from residents that their peace was being disturbed.

The warning, contained in a notice by Ruth Kijjambu, the acting town clerk, also names the top offenders.

“We continue to receive numerous complaints regarding the high level of noise pollution in the city. The biggest culprits are product promotions, bars, night clubs, churches, restaurants and some hotels,” read the notice.

Some of the popular places listed are Alleygator at Garden City, Bubbles-Irish Club and Hotel Protea, both located on Acacia Avenue in Kololo and Emin Pasha Hotel in Nakasero.

Others are bars and nightclubs in Wandegeya, Bugolobi, Muyenga, Natete, Naguru, Kisugu, Ntinda, Kisaasi and Kabalagala. The churches include Bethel Church in Kabowa and Christ Witness Church in Kisaasi.

KCC said numerous notices had been issued to the places to control the noise but they were ignored.

“Please note that we shall impound your equipment and prosecute you under the Kampala City Council (Maintenance of Law and Order) Ordinance, 2006 or under the National Environment (Noise Standards and Control) Regulations of 2003,” the notice added.

According to KCC, a surveillance team is monitoring the mentioned areas and had been given instructions to arrest and prosecute all offenders.
