BUSINESS trainers have been challenged to empower entrepreneurs with skills needed to promote business growth

BUSINESS trainers have been challenged to empower entrepreneurs with skills needed to promote business growth, writes Francis Emorut.

“We have given you the necessary skills to create world-class entrepreneurs,” Charles Ocici, the Enterprise Uganda executive director, said.

He added that with growth in businesses, there would be increased taxes for the Government.

Ocici, who was speaking at the closure of a business trainers workshop at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala recently, said three business firms trained by Enterprise Uganda in wealth creation emerged among the top 300 tax-payers in the country. Although he declined to name the firms, he said they were remitting sh4.8b taxes annually.

Entrepreneurs from Romania, Tanzania, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Guyana and Uganda attended the training. He said his organisation was committed to becoming one of the best enterprising institutions in Africa.

“We need the necessary infrastructure in order to encourage many people to attend our training,” he said.

Ocici pointed out that in order to succeed in business one needed to have multifaceted set of skills so as to be able to talk to politicians, civil servants and technocrats among others.

He commended the facilitators from Brazil, Lorenzo Tosini and Carl Rogers who managed to compress the training meant for 10 days to only four days.

He said this modern approach of workshop training should be emulated by Ugandans who hold workshops on quarterly basis.
