A road in Mukono district has been named after Paul Kalule Kagodo a former bush war fighter. The road that branches off the Kampala-Jinja highway at Kigombya to Nazigo was officially named on Wednesday.

Mukono District Chairman Francis Lukooya Mukoome while officiating at the ceremony said Kagodo advocated for the formation of Mukono from Luweero District.

“He was President Yoweri Museveni’s advisor. As a district we will be commemorating his achievements every year,” he said.

He said Kagodo was the leader of Uganda Freedom Movement, a rebel group that was fighting Milton Obote’s regime in 1980. In 1985 his group joined the NRA that captured power in 1986 under the leadership of President Museveni.

Moses Kabugo, the LC2 chairman of Namuyenge Parish, said Kagodo established camps in Nakisunga and Buikwe Sub-counties to protect residents from looters.

“Kagodo chaired a committee that gathered views from buganda on the 1995 constitution and served as Mukono’s defence secretary,” he said.
