THE 94 year-old LC1 chairperson of Entebbe-Kitooro has died. Livingstone Sebuliba who had been the LC1 since NRM came to power, died of high blood pressure on Christmas Day at Entebbe Grade A hospital.

He was laid to rest on Sunday at St. Mark’s Namate Church, Entebbe beside his wife, Gladys Nalwoga Sebuliba. She died on Easter in 2000.

Sebuliba’s governance forced the residents of Kitooro to abandon the LC1 elections in 2000 when he refused to stand due to blindness.

The residents invaded his home and threatened to evict him from the area if he refused. He was thus re-elected up to the time he went totally blind.

When Sebuliba lost his sight, the vice chairperson, Betty Nkata, run the office while he guided the committee.

Entebbe mayor Stephen Kabuye hailed Sebuliba for starting the open market in Kitooro commonly known as Kabubbu.

“By then we had not known about the open markets and we feared it would make Entebbe dirty. However, the introduction of this market has benefited many families financially and we thank him for that.”

Kabuye made the remarks during Sebuliba’s funeral service at St Peter’s Church, Kiwafu in Entebbe Archdeaconry on Sunday.

Kabuye described the late as an exemplary citizen and urged residents to emulate him.

Sebuliba and his late wife were among the group of about five people who started St Peter’s Church Kiwafu in 1979.

Reverend Samuel Lwere from Mpererwe Church of Uganda, who presided over the funeral ceremony, advised Christians to use their stay on earth fruitfully like Sebuliba had done.
