DEVELOPERS who have altered approved building plans will face closure, the deputy Kampala mayor has warned. Florence Namayanja also cautioned those who turn parking spaces into shops, saying they would be dealt with.

She said developers usually comply with Kampala City Council (KCC) regulations when submitting their building plans but alter them once they receive their permits.

Namayanja said they would withhold trading licences of altered buildings.

“Most of these developers issue KCC with a plan which has parking space and when issued with an occupation permit, they convert the parking space,” she explained.

“KCC is directing the developers to restore the parking plan with effect from Thursday January 9 (today, within which the developers of these buildings will face closure in 28 days if they fail to comply with the law,” she warned.

The buildings in question include the recently-constructed Energy Centre Shopping Arcade on Market Street, E-M Plaza on Kampala Road, Mabirizi City Complex, Sunset Arcade and Yamaha Centre.

Last month, local government minister Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire warned KCC engineers against issuing licences to those constructing substandard structures.
