TANZANIA'S Kilimanjaro Stars player Kevin Yondan risks Police arrest after assaulting a football fan at Nakivubo on Friday.

TANZANIA'S Kilimanjaro Stars player Kevin Yondan risks Police arrest after assaulting a football fan at Nakivubo on Friday, reports Swalley Kenyi.

An unidentified Uganda Cranes fan has reported an assault case against Yondan at Central Police Station in Kampala after the player hit him with a soda bottle.

Yondan, who was dismissed in their 3-1 loss in the last group stage match against Uganda, cast the empty bottle into the fans as the Kilimanjaro Stars came out of the dressing room to board their bus.

The bottle hit one among the Cranes fans, who heckled the Kilimanjaro Stars, on the head.

CECAFA local organising committee chairman Jowali Kyeyago confirmed the incident yesterday saying a fan had reported an assault case against Yondan.

“We met the Tanzanian team and their officials to find out a solution. They have apologised and we are mediating in the case. But the player (Yondan) has to foot treatment costs for the fan or he will be taken to Police cells,” Kyeyago said.

The Tanzanian officials had a closed meeting with CECAFA top executive and the local organising committee and agreed to handle the matter after their games.

“We talked to them and agreed to sort out the issue after their games. If we did it now, they would complain of mistreatment,” CECAFA secretary general Nicholas Musonye said.
