THE newly appointed boxing association normalisation committee has been given a deadline of January 25 by sports state Minister Charles Bakkabulindi to resolve the sport’s wrangles.

“Our role is to reconcile the two warring factions so that they revive and promote boxing. Their differences are constitutional so we have to bring both parties on a round table and sort out the contentious constitution amendments,” said city lawyer Charles Egou, who heads the normalisation committee.

Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) headed by its president Roger Ddungu is at loggerheads with the break-away Uganda Amateur Boxing Clubs Association (UABCA) backed by retired professional boxer Godfrey Nyakana.

The UABCA has objected to hiking affiliation fees, a four-year term of office and the president’s powers to appoint and sack his executive committee members.

National Council of Sports member Haruna Mawanda, Jimmy Odong from the Ministry of Education and Sports and Bakkabulindi’s personal assistant Yusuf Mukoka are members of the normalisation committee.

The committee will determine the composition of the assembly due next week, that will discuss the controversial constitutional amendments.
