A CITY-BASED journalist held over defilement was yesterday subjected to a medical examination to ascertain his mental and sero status.

Doctors at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala examined Faizal Tusiime, an employee of Record Television, at 10:00am, the Kawempe Police chief, Simon Wafana, said.

He, however, did not disclose the medical results, saying they were confidential. The results, will be produced in court.

A sero status test to ascertain whether a suspect has HIV/AIDS or not is a major requirement in defilement cases.

Suspects who are found to have been HIV+ or with AIDS at the time they allegedly committed a crime are charged with aggravated defilement.

Tusiime in October 2007 reportedly defiled a 12-year-old orphaned girl, who he had hired as a house help.

The girl reported the matter to the station but investigations stalled until the victim, who had become pregnant, lodged a fresh complaint. The girl has since given birth.
Wafana said Tusiime would appear at Buganda Road Magistrates Court in Kampala over defilement charges.

According to the law, Tusiime will face charges of aggravated defilement because the girl was below 15 years when she was reported to have been defiled.

In a related development, the victim and her baby are under the care of the station’s family protection unit.

Wafana told said she was in touch with her relatives who promised to collect her from the station.
