CYRUS Eyoku, a 14-year-old internally displaced person from Katine, in Soroti district scored aggregate 7 in Primary leaving examinations writes.

Eyoku’s father, Emma Egobu is crippled. In 1999, following the insurgency in Katine, Egobu, his wife Alice Aciro and their son Eyoku, fled the area and settled in Kyebando, a Kampala suburb.

Eyoku joined By-pass Standard Academy in Wakiso district where he sat his PLE.

While his parents struggled to pay school fees, Eyoku attracted sympathisers from the Young Over Comers’ fellowship of All Saints Cathedral through their outreach programme. The group offered to pay his school fees from 2007 to 2008 when he sat for his PLE.

Frank Kabushenga, a member of the group said they knew about Eyoku from a crippled street beggar who is a neighbour and friend to Eyoku’s family.

Eyoku attributed his achievement to hard work and determination. He said he was grateful to the Church and added that he wanted to become doctor.
