THE final list of the candidates eligible to contest during the forthcoming Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) polls will be released Friday, and could prematurely end Moses Twesigomwe’s bid to oust Maj. Gen. Francis Nyangweso.

According to UOC president Nyangweso, the Olympic committee is mandated to release to all federations candidates names seven days before the election date, after vetting as per the committee’s constitution.

Kyambogo University lecturer Twesigomwe last week confirmed that he intends to challenge Nyangweso at the helm of the committee.

Nyangweso yesterday said they were vetting the list, in line with their constitutional provision, to see which candidates are eligible for election.

Article 15.03 of the constitution provides that a nomination must be seconded by two national federations who should have paid their prescribed annual fee to both the Uganda Olympic Committee and their respective international federations.

Other members that are eyeing a number of posts, including that of vice-president on the committee include Beatrice Ayikoru, Okot Omwony and Godfrey Nuwagaba from athletics, Salim Musoke from weightlifting, Peter Mugisha and Don Rukare (swimming), Roger Ddungu (boxing), Onegi p’Minga (canoeing), Lanny Kimbowa (wrestling) and Peninah Kabenge and Tom Kigundu (outgoing executive members).
