Kyengera Rotary Club has given 12 wheelchairs to disabled children in Mpigi district.

The president of the club, Grace Kabuye, handed over the wheelchairs to the speaker of the district council, John Mary Luwakanya, at the headquarters last Wednesday.

The Speaker of the district, John Mary Luwakanya, expressed gratitude to Kyengera Rotary Club for their help.

The 12 wheelchairs were got from the American Wheelchair Foundation.
Kabuye thanked Mpigi district for caring for people with disabilities.

She commended the parents of the disabled children for forming an association, which she said enabled them to relate, encourage and also share their challenges.

“An association like yours is commendable because it can transform living conditions of your children. It is good to unite and share your challenges with one another, instead of suffering alone,” Kabuye said.

Kabuye encouraged members of the district council to revive Mpigi Rotary Club, which she said would make it easier for charity organisations to help the needy.

She asked the parents of the disabled children not to mis use the wheelchairs.
The chairperson of the Union of Parents of Children with Disabilities, John Muyanja, disclosed that there were some head teachers in the district, who mistreated and discriminated disabled children.
