DO you want to get cheap food stuffs in large quantities? Get up very early in the morning and go to a farmers’ market close to your home.

You will be surprised to find that your local farmers’ market does not only provide you with the finest, freshest, healthiest foods, but these seasonal delights can be yours at prices cheaper than those in a local supermarket.

Ssalongo Robert Musoke a vendor at Kireka farmers’ market, says, farmers’ markets provide a wider variety of fresh, groceries, at cheaper prices.

In these markets, you will get a variety of fresh groceries ranging from carrots, potatoes, and onions, eggs, pineapples and some you never knew existed.

In Kampala, almost every suburb has a farmers’ market, but the most famous are Kireka Farmers market, Kibuye, Nakasero, Kalerwe and Nateete.

Farmers’ markets open in the wee-hours of the morning and close hours past dusk. In the case of rural areas, some farmer’s markets are open everyday while in other regions they open once or twice a week especially on weekends.

If you happen to visit these markets before sunrise, you will be able to buy fresh foodstuffs from the transport vans.

“Although not true for every market, there is a general rule that those selling agricultural products at the market are the very same people who grow or produce the items you are purchasing.

Getting to be friends with them will serve to your benefit,” Musoke says.
One can save if the person buys in bulk.
