Are you any different from the Faridah on radio?
We are two different characters. She is argumentative on radio because she has to be heard, while outside the studios I am not. I do not argue that much especially with my husband because I respect him. It also makes him happy, which is important for m as his wife.

How did you meet your husband?
I had a crush on him while we were still at school but I respected the fact that he was seeing someone else. We met later at campus and from there our love blossomed.

Your thoughts on working with men…
You get to see the world through their eyes. When it comes to dating, men think women have no right to reject them. If they do, they begin insulting them and spoiling their name. From my interactions with them, I also know that they cheat on their spouses. Men tell me so and it bothers me as a married woman.
Do you believe your husband can cheat on you?
No. I do not. I trust him and I do not let what other people say get to me.

Are you often hit on?
It happens quite a lot but I believe every woman does get hit on. It is natural.

How do you deal with them?
It depends on how you approach me. If you begin by touching my butt or breast or any other part of my body, we instantly become enemies. But if you are respectful, we can end up as friends if you respect me.

Your first song was a dedication to your husband…
It was a very good way of letting him know how much and what he means to me. He is my world which is why I penned down the song for him. You cannot run away from love because it is everywhere. I was humbled when a fan called me and said she had reconciled with her man because of my song. I am glad because many people relate to it.

What gifts of appreciation did your husband give your parents?
My introduction ceremony was a very colorful event. Among other gifts included two cows, a goat, Television set, sofa sets and crates of soda. I appreciated the fact that he respected my people.

Would you consent to him having a second, third or fourth wife if he wanted?
No I wouldn’t because there’s AIDS. I fear for my life. You know people forget that it is not a must that a Muslim man must have more than one wife. The Koran says if you can cater for them and love them equally go on with your wife’s blessing. But is that really possible?

Well, what if he went on against your will?
He would have defied the Koran so we break up! You cannot leave your wife unattended to for four days and she waits for you. What would stop her from getting what you aren’t giving her from some one else?

Whom should people approach when they have problems in their marriage?
They should run to their mothers-in-law because they have been there and know how to deal with such situations. I believe my mother-in-law understands her son more than I do.
