Police get sh10m boots
KAMPALA - The Police has received boots worth sh10m from the Chinese community in Uganda. David Magara, the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) commandant, made the announcement during the hand-over at the RRU headquarters in Kireka last Tuesday. In 2004, the RRU arrested thugs who were attacking Chinese investors. Magara said a gang killed a Chinese near the Uganda Railways headquarters and robbed another of sh62m on First Street Industrial Area in 2004. “The Chinese are happy because we managed to save sh60m out of the sh62m. We also arrested all the killers who are now facing murder charges in Luzira Prison,” Magara said. Dr. Bin Yu, an official of the Chinese community, said; “We are glad that in 2008, none of our investments or colleagues was attacked by thugs.”

Prisons for duty free
KAMPALA - The Prisons service will enjoy duty free facilities as one of the measures to improve professional standards in the institution. This follows a directive by President Yoweri Museveni during a recent meeting with Dr Johnson Byabashaija, the commissioner general of Prisons. Byabashaija made the disclosure during the pass-out of 56 newly-promoted senior officers in Luzira last Thursday. Since appointment of the Prisons Authority in November 2008, it has recommended the promotion of officers in the force.
