FORMER Rugby Cranes and MTN Heathens captain Peter Magona, has declared his candidature for the Uganda Rugby Union top seat of chairman.

Magona will face off with current union vice-chairman William Blick who also declared his intentions earlier. The elections are slated for March.

“I’m mature enough, have the experience and contacts that can enable me head the union. That is why I’m standing for the top seat,” Magona said.

He however declined to divulge his plans while in office. He said he is still negotiating with the people he wants to work with.

“I’m still in negotiations with the team I hope to work with. When we finalise, I will avail you with the details of my manifesto. For the moment I can only confirm that I will stand,” Magona added.

Meanwhile, URU secretary Paul Nyangabyaki has ruled out any intention of standing for any post in the union.

“I’m not standing for any post. I have served Ugandan rugby for four years and it is high time I get a break to concentrate on my business and make money,” said Nyangabyaki.
