KEEPER Hannington Kalyesuubula’s return to competitive football since 2006 has been delayed by a wrist injury he sustained in training at the weekend.

SC Villa coach Sula Kato had hoped to give the lanky goalkeeper his first match since signing a two-year contract at Villa Park. They take on Sharing FC in the Kakungulu Cup at Nakivubo Stadium.
Kato confirmed after training yesterday that Kalyesuubula and defender Asuman Alishe would miss the game.

He however added that the two will be available when the two sides clash again in the Super League. Alishe is carrying a thigh injury.

Villa ejected Kinyara in Masindi and they travel to Sharing well-knowing that their opponents ejected KCC in the first round.
“I cannot take chances because those boys are hungry to prove that they are good. We have to be at our best,” Kato warned.

The winner of the game will face Express SC or Mbarara United in the quarter-final. Mbarara hosts Express on Monday.

Police and Simba play host to Kakira and Flyers Community at Namboole and Bombo respectively.

  • WESTERN side Mbarara United FC are optimistic they can cause an upset when they take on Express in their Kakungulu Cup and Uganda Super League encounters next week, adds Aloysius Byamukama.

Mbarara hosts Express in a Kakungulu Cup second round game on February 2, and the two sides meet in a league tie on February 4 at Kakyeka Stadium. This was after a request by the Red Eagles.

Mbarara is fresh from a promising start to the second round of the Uganda Super League that has already seen them gather four points. They beat Nalubaale at home 1-0 and earned a goalless draw away to Simba.

“We expect a win in either of the battles and a super league win would work for us. Kakungulu Cup will be just a bonus for us,” said team captain Adam Yiga.

“We are a full team after getting new signings and Express should fall here,” added defender Innocent Mukhole.
Under coach Hakim Nsibambi, Mbarara is still threatened by relegation as they lie 13th on the table with 16 points from 18 games.

“We are working out a plan on how to stay in top-flight football. This is the time to prove to our fans that we can stay. We need their support and we shall not betray them,” Nsibambi said.

The two sides played to a 0-0 draw in the first round at Wankulukuku. The hosts have only lost twice to Express in their last six meetings.
