Forum for Democratic Party (FDC) president Dr. Kizza Besigye has criticised the Police over the way they handled allegations that his party wanted to murder Rubaga MP Beti Kamya.

William Ssekubulwa, an FDC supporter, recently said he had been contacted by two senior FDC officials to murder Kamya.

“It is unbelievable that up to now the Police have done nothing about this man. Let them come out and tell the public the findings of their investigations,” Besigye told journalists yesterday at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi.

He said Ssekubulwa went to the party headquarters and confessed that Kamya had told him to forge the story.

Besigye said Ssekubulwa also said he was instructed to say FDC was recruiting rebels in Kiboga district.

He said the party had a tape recording of Ssekubulwa admitting to the allegations.

Besigye said the party officials agreed to inform the then internal affairs minister, Ruhakana Rugunda, about the allegations.

He said on November 10, 2008, the party officials, led by the party’s secretary for security, John Kazoora, reported the matter to the Inspector General of Government (IGG).

“The IGG assigned an officer from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Eli Womanya, to investigate the matter. Womanya came here on November 14, 2008 and interrogated Ssekubulwa,” said Besigye.

He said the party leaders were surprised to see the same man telling newspapers a contradicting story.

“This is one of those stories forged to taint not only mine but also the FDC image. You remember how the Government said I had raped a woman. You all remember how the then CID director, Elizabeth Kuteesa, forged information to incriminate me,” said Besigye.
