THE Commander of Land Forces, Gen. Katumba Wamala, has called for the improvement of the Police force’s welfare.

Katumba, former Inspector General of Police, said the poor welfare affected the moral of the officers.
He was appearing before the parliamentary committee probing the Police yesterday.

“As we look at the behaviour of the Police, we should also look at their welfare,” Katumba told the committee chaired by Peter Nyombi (Independent).

He said the Police were poorly paid and accommodated, which he said was a result of the small budget allocated to them.

“If the Police budget does not change, the welfare of the Police will not improve,” he warned.
