REGIONAL champions National Insurance Corporation (NIC) is leading two other Ugandans teams Police and Prisons to the East Africa netball club championships in Zanzibar.

The three clubs will battle opponents from Tanzania, Kenya and hosts Zanzibar in the week-long clubs’ championship that started yesterday.

Five teams were expected to represent Uganda but on Tuesday UPDF and Kamwokya pulled out due to financial constraints.

But Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) secretary Annet Kisomoso said even after the pull out of those two teams, they still expect to retain the trophy.

“At least we still have the defending champions NIC with us and this means we can make up for the teams that withdrew,” Kisomoso said before departure.

The East Africa club championship winners will later play a friendly game against South Africa, the current Southern Africa netball champions. Zambia and South Africa will feature as guest teams.
