MOSES Kipsiro leads top athletes to Kapchorwa this Saturday to battle for the national cross country crown and places on the team to the World Cross Country March 28 in Amman, Jordan.

Kipsiro, the Athlete-of-the Year, will come up against East Africa half marathon winner Isaac Kiprop and former World junior silver medallist Boniface Kiprop in a race expected to attract hundreds of runners. MTN is sponsoring the event at Kapchorwa Secondary School.

The top four will make the team to the world cross country. Two reserves might be named by the federation.

Lillian Cheptegei meanwhile, rediscovered her form during the inaugural Kapchorwa Road run at Sebei College Tegeres last Saturday winning the race. The event was sponsored by Canadian Karl Keirstead of A Running Stat Foundation to tap talent.

Cheptegei, who had been seen as a possible challenger for top runners like world steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru two years back disappeared from the scene. She resurfaced with a baby boy during the Kapchorwa event, which she won with ease.

“I am back and ready to train hard,” Cheptegei said while she curdled her baby. She said she got married after she attained stardom announcing that she was now back to active athletics.

Standard Athletics camp manager Godfrey Nuwagaba promised her training shoes, spikes and a track suit.
