<b>Police release head teacher</b><br>GULU - The Police have released the Laroo Boarding Primary School headmaster, Charles Christopher Opira, who was said to have caused a financial loss of sh203m to the school last year.

GULU - The Police have released the Laroo Boarding Primary School headmaster, Charles Christopher Opira, who was said to have caused a financial loss of sh203m to the school last year. The district Police officer in charge of crimes, Richard Ocheng, in a letter to the chief administrative officer, said they carried out investigations and found no evidence to prove the allegations. The Police said there were irregularities in the accounts department and poor book-keeping. Ocheng attributed this to lack of skilled personnel.

300 teachers not on payroll

AMURU - Out of 966 primary school teachers in the district, 330 are not on the Government payroll, the resident district commissioner, Edwin Yakobo Komakech, has said. He was briefing the northern Uganda state minister, David Wakikhona and the Germany ambassador, Reinhardt Buchholz, during the commissioning of a multi-million skills training centre at Otwee parish.

Rice farm to be revived

DOKOLO - The Government has set aside sh3b for the reconstruction of Olweny Rice Scheme Irrigation Project in Agwata sub-county. It had been dormant for the last five years. The move follows a visit by the area MP, Felix Okot Ogong, to the site. The machinery like tractors, water pumps and rice threshers had been vandalised. Animals were also being grazed on the farm.

Nebbi gets peace project

NEBBI - There is no tangible development that can be achieved in an insecure environment, the German ambassador, Reinhardt Buchholz, has said. He was speaking at the launch of a peace project implemented by Life Concern, a non government organisation. Buchholz said there was need to put in place proactive measures aimed at identifying causes of conflict to find ways of mitigating them appropriately. He pledged to continue supporting Uganda.
