IDEALLY Maji FC is not supposed to be one of those genuine threats to KCC FC’s title prospects.

After all the league champions return to the domestic front still riding high from their 2-0 Africa Champions League victory over Mozambique side Ferroviaro de Maputo.

Besides losing to the table-leaders in their last four league meetings over two seasons, Maji’s tenth-place on the table also amplifies the significant gulf between the two.

But that could all pale into insignificance if Maji’s recent spirited performances have been anything to go by. Maji shocked domestic football on Tuesday after dispatching league title challengers Bunamwaya with a 2-0 convincing victory.

“We have to take them more serious than ever. That victory definitely lifted their belief and they will want to stretch that against us,” KCC coach George Nsimbe noted.

Brian Umony will continue to shoulder KCC’s attacking responsibility alongside strike partner Robert Ssentongo as the yellow submarine look to preserve their gap against second-placed SC Villa who travel to Kakira.

KCC boss Nsimbe will further assess his side's credibility on the international front when they engage Sudan’s El Merriekh in a friendly on March 1.
