UGANDA’s Emma Katto will hit the road third in the Rally of Tanzania that gets underway this evening with a super special stage at Mulimani City in Dar es Salaam.

UGANDA’s Emma Katto will hit the road third in the Rally of Tanzania that gets underway this evening with a super special stage at Mulimani City in Dar es Salaam.

Katto who will be navigated by Dar es Salaam-based Ugandan Moses Matovu in a Subaru N12 will take off behind Zambian Muna Singh (Subaru) and homeboy Ahmed Huwel also in a Subaru Impreza.

Katto moved to third position after Kenyan Sad Anwar did not show up for the event which is the opening round of the 2009 Africa Rally Championship.

Katto, making a fifth attempt at the African championship, seeks to become the second Ugandan to win the continental title after Charles Muhangi in 1999. Katto, who jetted in from Ghana where he is now based, went route reccing with Matovu yesterday.

The event has attracted 25 competitors from Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Uganda.

After the Tanzania rally competitors will head to Kenya for the second round-the KCB Safari Rally. The Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally in May is the third round.
