RESIDENTS of Butagaya sub-county in Jinja district have recommended that people involved in kidnap and child sacrifice should face the death penalty.

They appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to ensure that cases of child sacrifice do not take long in the courts of law.

This was during a consultative meeting with the Kagoma County MP, Frederick Mbagadhi Nkaayi, at the sub-county headquarters on Monday.

The meeting was convened to brainstorm on the Land Amendment Bill, the Trafficking in Persons Bill and the Death Penalty Bill.

Ali Kaweti, a resident of Butagaya, said: “The culprits deserve death or life imprisonment, nothing less.”

Jinja district LC5 chairman Hannington Basakana backed the residents.

Basakana said the Government should be vigilant on people who masquerade as born-again Christians to lure children to be killed or to be used in pervasive acts.

Anthony Baligeya and Sebastian Byakika said there was rampant eviction of residents from their ancestral land by people claiming to be investors.

Nkaayi urged the residents to start practising commercial farming so as to increase their income.
