Comfort zone

Dear Total Man,

I have never had sex, and I don’t want to before completing my studies, but I always lose sperm at night during sleep. I am scared. Will I have children in future?
Jethro
Dear Jethro,

I believe you are describing ‘wet dreams,’ when a boy or man has an erection and ejaculates during sleep. During puberty, our bodies mature and our sex organs develop. A man starts producing sperm and can ejaculate. You are attracted sexually to other people, and feel the need to have sex. This is normal. You may decide whether or not to have sex. Some people masturbate for sexual relief. This is normal and has no medical problems. You may find that you have dreams of having sex, have erections at night and ejaculate while asleep. This is completely normal and natural. There is nothing wrong with them and they will not make you infertile. So don’t be scared. Wet dreams are a normal, healthy function of your body. As one grows older, and with regular sex and ejaculation, the frequency of wet dreams decreases. Again, this is normal.
