A LOCAL female artist of the year, Sophia Nantongo, has been accused of demolishing a perimeter wall belonging to her neighbour Mary Nakakawa, 82, in Salaama, Makindye Division.

Nakakawa on Thursday testified that Nantongo demolished her seven feet wall on September 9, 2008. She says the wall cost her sh8m to erect. “I bought this plot of land in 2002 and I have stayed in Salaama for the last six years. I decided to construct a perimeter wall to separate my plot from Nantongo’s but she came with her friends and broke down my wall,” Nakakawa told court.

Nantongo, who is currently facing charges of criminal trespass before the Makindye Grade One Magistrate, Joyce Kavuma, bought the her plot of land last year. Abdu Ngobya, a builder at Nakakawa's premises, told court that he found Nantongo, two of her colleagues and two brick makers in the neighbourhood breaking down the perimeter wall fence that was still under construction. After a tip off, Ismail Ssemanda, nephew to Nakakawa, reported the matter to Police immediately.
