Illegal polythene bags intercepted
JINJA-The Uganda Revenue Authority intercepted a truck carrying contraband polythene bags worth over sh200m. Godson Mwesigye, the supervisor for enforcement in charge of the eastern region, said the truck was intercepted at the Mailo Mbili roundabout on the Jinja-Iganga highway at about 3:00am on Tuesday. “The truck was loaded with 430 empty crates of soda belonging to the Coca Cola company. The polythene bundles and textile were inside a small chamber partitioned in the big one,” Mwesigye said, adding that the truck was from Busia heading to Kampala.

SAACO gets sh267m grant
TORORO-The International Labour Organisation has given a grant of $133,827 (about sh267m) to Aminanara savings and credit cooperative organisation (SACCO). The grant, under the Cooperative Facility for Africa, will be used to add value to the local cereals by increasing the income of the SACCO members. David Okurut, the SACCO chairperson, said the grant would be used within the next one year.

Parents advised on education
JINJA-Parents have been urged to educate their children in order to benefit from them in future. Education minister Namirembe Bitamazire said some parents neglected educating their children and yet they expected the children to support them in old age. Bitamazire was speaking at celebrations of the 6th anniversary and the excellent performance of Holy Cross Lake View SS last week.
