THE Katikkiro of Kooki, Ananiya Sekyanzi, has asked the royal family in Rakai district not to drag their king, the Kamuswaga and his Lukiiko (parliament) into political and personal wrangles.

Sekyanzi was responding to reports that royals recently threatened to influence the Kooki Lukiiko to break away from Buganda Kingdom.

Speaking at the introduction ceremony of Aida Nankya and Dauda Ntanda, a minister of the Kamuswaga, Sekyanzi said: “The forefathers and kings of Kooki signed a memorandum of understanding according this region a special status in Buganda kingdom. We were not there when it was signed and we do not know about its contents. I assure you even if it was the Kamuswaga himself, he cannot come out to say that Kooki is breaking away.”

Sekyanzi disclosed that some princes of Kooki had personal misunderstandings with Buganda and the Government.

A prince reportedly vowed to influence Kooki to break away from Buganda because Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi did not reward him to his expectations for helping the late Sir Edward Mutesa II, father to Mutebi, when soldiers attacked Lubiri Palace in 1966.
