If you were left with only 24 hours to live...

AFTER a long lousy day, a quick shower and a routine settling down to complete her thesis, an ominous presence suddenly filled her room: he needed no introduction. Its eyes were grey and lifeless, a chill accompanied it … a bone numbing chill that dried her veins; Death had appeared to her with the one intention: ‘I’ve come to take you’.

She was not prepared for him…a thousand thoughts jammed the corridors of her brain but not one could be uttered –– regrets, wishes, wants all flooded her mind. ‘I have come to take you’ declared Death once again. Snapping out of her panic she pleaded her case: “Would it be too much if I asked for one more day? I have never lived my life fully and I’d like to do that for a day.” Death hesitated, considered her words and spoke: “So be it … I will be back after 24 hours.”

Her mind swirled with thoughts, wishes and wants. That night she replied all those long ignored e-mails. That night she called her loved ones and laughed with them, found out how they had been doing after so long. That night, she dipped herself in a luxurious petal bath and drank sweet bubbly. That night she sat at the veranda and drank in the midnight sky as she danced with herself.

That same night, she wrote the proposal she had been meaning to write but was too busy to. Come day time and she mopped the floor like a king was about to tread upon it, she smiled at everyone, listened attentively and gave meaningful advice, she worked to the best of her ability in everything she did. Her dressing and demeanour that day made the guy whom she’d had a crash on all semester to say ‘hi’. That day she turned day into sunshine.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU HAD 24 HOURS TO LIVE?
Despite the fact that we are amazingly intricate creations, filled with incredible potential, we choose to live below our giftings, talents and capabilities.

We are breathless day in day out as we rush between appointments, deadlines and responsibilities. We end up only scratching the surface in many an endeavour we embark upon; we stick to mediocrity just because it is easier to be ordinary.

The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is extra … how far are you willing to make that extra! Doesn’t have to be much….just a little bit more than the ordinary. It is called the 10mm difference, for you to become outstanding.

If you do what you’re expected to do, don’t expect an outstanding result, my sister. Whether you are mopping the floor or making a cup of tea or teaching the toddler his ABC.

If you’re a stay-at-home mum, do not just be humdrum…be the best stay-at-home mum that your children could ever have. If you’re a career woman, rise above mediocrity and set a standard of excellence in everything you do.

If you’re a friend, be a real one, a deep one, a meaningful one …..go the extra mile even if you are not getting paid for it. If you’re a lover, be the most mind blowing lover known in history.

Someone once said: to be without a dream puts mediocrity on autopilot. Are you guilty of doing what everyone expects you to do? You aren’t willing to take the risks –– you’re comfortable playing it safe.

What about you? Where has life left you? Are you simply letting the cares of life press you down and keep you in the rat race? So go back to that thought-provoking question above: “If you had 24 hours to live … how differently would you live that day?

Ladies, we have everything we need to rise up out of mediocrity and live abundantly…..it all lies within and its up to us to dust ourselves off and LIVE.

No one can do it for us...it is a personal decision.  Sisters sledge...see you on the other side.
