EDWIN Ekiring will wait a little longer to make a bid for the Africa’s top Badminton crown.

Ekiring saw his plans crash after he was omitted from the squad for the Africa championship over the weekend.

The event will start next Friday in Nairobi, Kenya and will be followed by the Kenya international.

Ekiring, who is the current African top seed and All Africa Games bronze medalist, was expected to captain Uganda’s team.

But Uganda Badminton Federation dropped the player who is in the Netherlands failing to secure sh1.3m to send him an air ticket to travel down for the event.

At the same time, the local women’s top seed Rose Nakalya, who is studying in Algeria, was also dropped from the team.

“We failed to secure the money to bring the two players to boost the national side,” an official Simon Mugabi explained.

The team has Abraham Wogute, Brian Suuna, Wilson Tukire, Margaret Nankabirwa and Shamim Bangi.
