NEHAL BIBODI’S beautifully crafted century was in vain as Uganda succumbed to Bermuda by eight wickets to finish an underwhelming 10 th in the ICC World Cup Qualifier.

Uganda won the toss, elected to bat and amassed what was comfortably its highest score in the tournament. Bibodi scored a polished 109 –– his second century in a row –– Franco Nusbuga fell just two short of a century and Joel Olwenyi chipped in with a handy 45 as Uganda posted an intimidating 352-7 in the allotted 50 overs.

But yet again, the bowler’s inability to defend positive totals proved a major undoing.

David Kemp scored a blistering 170 off 141 balls and Steven Outerbridge was equally punishing with 107 off 99 balls as Bermuda motored towards the target with nine balls to spare.

Nsubuga and Kenneth Kamyuka, predictably, picked the only two wickets to fall.

However, the fact that of the seven bowlers employed, skipper Davis Arinaitwe came off with the most impressive economy rate of 5.75 tells the story of Uganda’s struggles with the ball.

The result ensures Uganda a tenth-place finish.

The top 10 teams will qualify for the Gatorade ICC High Performance Programme grant funding in 2009 and 2010, in line with the new ICC developing cricket world funding policy, while the teams who finish 11th and 12th will be placed in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 3 in 2010.

From there, two teams will progress to Division 2 in the same year (joining the teams who finished seventh to 10th in the CWC Qualifier).

The top four sides at the event qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

The top six teams secure ODI status until 2013 and also qualify automatically for the ICC Intercontinental Cup 2009-10.
