WILSON Tukire will lead Uganda’s assault for continental individual accolades after the attempt to get a podium finish in the African Badminton Championships team event failed over the weekend.

African fourth seed Tukire will be Uganda’s biggest hope for a medal at the biennial event taking place in Nairobi, Kenya in the absence of continent top seed Edwin Ekiring. Ekiring is busy with studies in the Netherlands.

“I had told them to concentrate on each game as it comes. They look to have recovered for the challenge that awaits them,” said national coach Simon Mugabi.

Team Uganda, facilitated by Standard Chartered Bank, comprises Tukire, Brian Ssuuna and Abraham Wogute in the men, while Margaret Nankabirwa and Shamim Bangi are the women racketeers.
