A taste of Kampala’s 24-hour shopping experience

THE new Nakumatt supermarket that opened recently in Kampala is the latest addition to Uganda’s shopping scene.

The Kenyan retail chain is located at the Oasis Shopping Mall on Yusuf Lule Road and offers a great shopping experience.

At the entrance, you are welcomed by a sculpture of an elephant and a cool ambiance.

What is on offer?
The supermarket has two floors. The shelves are stocked with a range of neatly arranged items.
The cereal section is stocked with American Garden products like peanut butter, mayonnaise and microwave popcorn.

The ground floor is stocked with electronic appliances like the 42-inch LG LCD TV at sh3,099,000. Gas cookers range from sh982,200 to about sh1m.

There is a vegetable section with fresh foods like matooke at sh900 a kilo, while fresh maize costs sh900 per cob.

If you enjoy beef and fish, the ranchers section has a lot to offer, including sea food.

At Nakumatt, your snack needs have been catered for. The confectionery offers a variety of fresh snacks including bread and cakes at pocket-friendly prices.

The first floor is stocked with a variety of household items. A leather sofa set costs between sh1.9m for a three-seater to sh4.8m for a six-seater.

A dining table set costs between sh625,000 (glass) and sh2.7m (wooden), while the price of beds ranges from sh381,000 to sh942,000.

You will be spoilt for choice in the garment section. It has men’s jeans with prices ranging from sh53,700 to sh56,800 and shirts from sh24,900 to sh48,600. Ladies’ T-shirts cost sh31,000 each.

Those who fancy reading are not left out. The “Mad about Books” section is stocked with a variety of books to enjoy.

The supermarket has sufficient parking space with security. It is also the first of its kind to offer 24-hour shopping.

Nakumatt also offers the smart shopping card system which helps you to save sh500 on every item provided your purchase exceeds sh5,000.
