THE Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, President Yoweri Museveni, has promoted 42 army officers to ranks ranging between colonel to 2nd lieutenant.

The promotions, announced yesterday by the defence ministry and UPDF spokesman, Maj. Felix Kulayigye, included that of the minister of State for Animal husbandry, Maj. (Rtd) Bright Kanyontore Rwamirama, who has been promoted to Lieutenat colonel.

Rwamirama is also the MP for Insingiro North.

Another legislator, Capt. (Rtd) David Guma Gumisiriza, the MP Ibanda north, has been promoted to major, while Lt. Col, John Mugenyi, who turned to entrepreneurship after retirement from active service a few years ago, was promoted to colonel.

Kulayigye explained that “unless an army officer has been in retirement for more that five years, he or she is considered still in active service and can be promoted or deployed by the commander-in-Chief.”

In May last year, 65 officers were promoted, while 124 more were promoted in August.

In yet another promotion, Museveni raised the ranks of 415 officers in October last year.
