PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has urged law students to be honest and competent in order to dispense high quality justice.
The President asked students to acquaint themselves with the institutions that Government had set up to fight corruption such as the Inspectorate of Government and the Anti-corruption Court.
“You should develop leadership capacity and acquire more knowledge and skills important for Uganda’s needs, instead of wasting time in useless arguments,†Museveni said in a speech read by the Attorney General and Minister of Constitutional Affairs, Dr. Kiddu Makubuya.
The Attorney General was speaking during the annual Makerere University law dinner and awards ceremony at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on Saturday.
The President counselled the students to be ethical. On economic development, Museveni called for industrialisation and value-addition.
He also called for the development of human resource through education and infrastructural development, saying it would enable traders access markets and enhance regional integration.
Ben Twinomugisha, the dean of the Faculty of Law at Makerere University, urged the Government to formulate an anti-sexual harassment policy to protect women at work places. Present were Supreme Court judges George Kanyeihamba and Galdino Okello.
