GOALKEEPER Denis Onyango could complete a career-dream move to Europe in the summer. According to reliable sources at South African champions SuperSport United, interest in the Ugandan goalkeeper have come from a Russian and Swedish football club.

Onyango’s contract at SuperSport expires at the end of next month.

“The Russian club is a giant in the country but Copenhagen is the other. Orlando Pirates are also interested but he would love the earlier options,” the source stated.
Onyango confirmed reports linking him with a move to Europe.

“My manager has told me about a move abroad, but he has yet to come back to tell me about new developments. I am just concentrating on our last two games and next week Monday will sit down with the club’s management to discuss my future,” he told South African sports publication KickOff.com.

The Russian club is believed to be either Zenit St Petersburg, CSKA Moscow or Rubin Kazan.

However, separate reports indicate that SuperSport are determined to retain the goalkeeper as their first choice next season.

SuperSport will be without the other two – Tshepo Motsoeneng, who is set to join Santos and Andre Arendse who is retiring.

Ugandan goalkeepers have made their mark, and the current national number one Abbey Dhaira is Europe bound.

Dhaira could become the second Ugandan to make it to the Premiership if he impresses during trials with Birmingham City. The 22-year-old is expected to fly to Birmingham in July after a recommendation by Uganda Cranes coach Robert Williamson.

Ugandan-born German Savio Nsereko set the pace by joining West Ham early this year.
