MINNOWS Nile High, Soroti SS, Bukoyo SS alongside holders St. Mary’s Kitende stormed into the COPA Coca-Cola schools soccer championship quarterfinals due today.

The Wakiso giants showed their determination to retain the title with a 7-0 routing of the Oyam district champions Atapara yesterday. Super League side Bunamwaya FC striker Eddy Mubiru contributed four goals.

Bishop McAllistrer College Kyogera (Bushenyi) and Kibuli SS (Kampala) were not that lucky as they fell to upcountry teams.

Kitende is up against arch rivals Tororo Progressive Academy (TOPA), who saw off Yale High School of Kayunga 2-0. Kitende have twice beaten the Tororo side twice in the quarterfinals stage of the championship.

But TOPA captain Joseph Owino, who scored goals with Ronald ‘Rooney’ Musano, 18, vowed: “Our team spirit is high and we are determined to disprove Kitende.”

Kitende skipper Mubiru warned. “TOPA can do the talking but the results will come from the pitch,” said the 16-year-old forward.
