PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has criticised the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) for spending most of its money on ‘non-visible things’ like workshops and seminars.

Museveni, currently on an anti-poverty drive in the Luweero Triangle, said the programme would be revisited and its officials investigated.

“We want to have a change so that the money benefits the people instead of being spent on things you do not see,” Museveni said during a rally at Kinyogoga in Nakaseke district on Sunday.

Earlier on, the area NAADS co-coordinator told the President that the sub-county received sh68m, which they used to buy 120 bee hives, 10 exotic cows and 10 exotic goats.

The rest of the money was used for capacity building workshops.

The President said he wanted to thank the people for supporting him during the war.

He urged the locals to exchange their long-horned indigenous Ankole cattle with Friesian cattle which produce more milk.

“The indigenous cows are good, but those with less than 100 cows, should exchange them with Friesians.”

The predominately cattle-keeping communities in Ngoma and Kinyogoga sub-counties were asked to grow fruits and rear bees for honey in addition to keeping cows and goats.

“It is no longer enough to keep cows for milk, because you also need money for other requirements. You have to move with the times,” Museveni advised.

Museveni, whose anti-poverty drive started in Mukono last week, said the Government was determined to wipe out poverty among Ugandans.

He was happy to note that rehabilitation works on Wakyato-Ngoma and Ngoma-Bulyamushenyu roads had started.

The President promised to construct a bridge across River Kafu at Bulyamushenyu in Ngoma to ease movement between Nakaseke and the neighbouring Masindi district.
